The area of Gournes where Niros Beach is located is a mildly developed tourist area with many beaches and several restaurants, near (1.7 km) of the Kokkini Hani shopping center. Nearby (1.9 km) is the famous Cretaquarium, an internationally known aquarium with 200 different species of the Mediterranean Sea, the dinosaur park Dinosauria Park (2,2 km.) and the Crete Golf Club, the only 18-hole golf course of international standard in Crete.
